Microcity: Innovation centre of Neuchâtel

Researchers from the Institute of Microtechnology in Neuchâtel are in the process of moving into their brand new premises in the newly built Microcity. This is a crucial step for the development of innovation cluster in Neuchatel.

The construction of Microcity began in the canton of Neuchâtel in October of 2011 to foster innovation in the region, long renowned for its watchmaking and mechanical industries. Microcity represents a strong step towards creating one of the largest centres of competence for microtechnology in Europe. Microcity will house not only the Institute for Microtechnology (IMT) of EPFL but also the Swiss Centre for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM) and  Neode science and technology park.

This project boosts the collaboration between various research institutions as well as accelerates the “lab to fab” process for the benefits of industrial sectors. Eventually, 650 researchers and students will work on the site.

Microcity is located just five minutes walk from MYK, and we are excited to welcome such a development to our neighborhood.

Although many researchers and entrepreneurs are in the process of moving into their new offices in Microcity, the official opening is scheduled for May 8, 2014 and the public can visit the building during an Open Day, which will be held on May 10, 2014 .
