150 years of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Japan

In 2014, Switzerland and Japan celebrate the 150th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations. MYK looks forward to this auspicious year, full of activities and exciting new opportunities.

The year 2014 marks a milestone in the friendly relations between Switzerland and Japan, who will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.

 

In 1864, a first Treaty of Amity and Trade was signed between the two countries, and their friendship continues to grow ever since. About 300’000 Japanese tourists visit Switzerland every year, and 9’300 Japanese currently live in Switzerland. In the past few years, Japan and Switzerland signed the Agreement on Free Trade and Economic Partnership, the Agreement on Social Security as well as the Tax Agreement, which all contributed to a further deepening of our mutual economic relations.

 

This auspicious anniversary will offer a rich program of outstanding activities and events throughout Switzerland and Japan.
